I never thought I´d be writing about a tree on this blog. But here is the famous Rubber tree of La Recoleta. Its proper name would be the Ficus Elastica, but I think Rubber tree sounds just right. This is the oldest tree in the city of Buenos Aires. Witness to the cities events since 1791, it is found just in front of the Cafe La Biela. It was planted by Don Martín José de Altolaguirre y Pando, as the XVIII century was coming to its end. The trunk spans to an amazing 7 metres in diameter and some of its branches reach a length of 28 metres. A true giant that has lived in our city for over 220 years!
